Cutters Reserves Score Seasons 3rd Win


The South Cairns Cutters have finally racked up their third win of the season, downing City Cobras at Fretwell Park in round 15 2010. Bradford leading the way for the Cutters kicking four majors, Greenwood two, whilst Misener and Stewart continue on with their good form. Familiar faces back at the club in Teale and Van Hassel, Lawson back from injury. It’s now round fifteen in 2010 the ladder reads Cobras three wins, Cutters two. It’s a far cry from the highs of 2009, the Cutters desperate and producing their third win for the season.
Although a little slippery under foot from an earlier shower, the Cutter’s started the better dominating the early part of the first term. The Cutters had much of the play in their forward fifty, unfortunately early goals hard to come by, the Cutters kicking three behinds before managing the first major. Peirce for the Cutters yellow carded in the next passage of play, giving the Cobras their first scoring opportunity. Fortunately for the Cutters the result a behind only, unfortunately a turnover from the kick in resulting in a major for the Cobras. The Cobras then steeling the momentum late in the term scoring another goal and heading into the first break leaders by four points.
The Cobras continued on where they left off in the second term, going forward and kicking one goal one and one out of bounce, before the Cutters could get their first through quick hands from Teale, Bradford chalking up his first for the day. Confusion reigned at the next bounce, Cobras getting a free kick from the center, a handy quick reply, the margin back to eleven points. The Cutters managing a late goal to Greenwood, but still the margin in deficit of six points at the main break.
A quick start for the Cutters in the third. Huddleston kicking the first to level the score at four goals four a piece. Teale and Bradford again combining in the Cutters next major. The Latter getting a head high tackle, the free kick doesn’t miss. Friend missed one for the Cutters, but Joel Van Hassel making no mistake to put the Cutters further ahead. The Cutters were looking good this quarter gaining confidence and starting to hit more targets more regularly. Young John Etherington scoring the last goal of the term leading the Cutters into the last change thirteen points ahead and perhaps with a sniff of victory.
The Cobras took it up to the Cutters in the last term, with early play inside their fifty, but unable to score. The Cutters first foray forward scoring the quarter’s first goal and opening up the floodgates for the next two as well, increasing their lead to twenty seven points, the Cutters now dominating play inside their fifty. The Cobras managed just the one goal in the last term, gifted once again from poor kick in turnovers. The Cutters running out eventual winners by twenty six points
