Cutters Blow Half Time Lead & Game
The South Cairns Cutters seniors have let a slender half time lead slip, and their chance at a seasons first win go begging. The Cutters looked in the game at half time, until sloppy disposal let them down in the third, from which Cobras seized the momentum, and never looked back running out winners by thirty two points.
The Cobras looked ominous early winning the first contested bounce to go forward and kick the games first goal. Moments later they were at it again before the Cutters could repel giving opportunity to Dewis-Trackson, the young man scoring a behind only. Trackson’s ball reading skills good for such a young man, he found himself with a well read mark and this shot didn’t miss the sticks putting the Cutters in front. Behinds to both sides, before a throw in the Cutters forward fifty, slick hands from Davison found Mackrill on the end of it and his snap from the pocket scores truly. Davison again in the mix, this time assisting Barnes with his first goal, but it was the Cobras who would head to the first change leading but with the slimmest of margins.
An even second quarter would follow the first but this time the scoreboard would favor the Cutters. Kennedy, Wanders, M Anning, D Lock combining for four goals to the Cobras three, and going into the main break ahead by five points and their tail up.
Unfortunately for the Cutters and their faithful, the third term was far from pretty, with unforced errors and poor disposal skills prevailing; gifting Cobras back the lead and the momentum going into the last change. The Cutters this term kept goalless and managing a miserly three behinds only.
As proven in previous games the Cutters had the ability to compete in the first half, but tend to drop off in the second. Having lost momentum in the third the Cutters struggled to get it back in the last, and were again outscored this term four goals to one, the Cobras eventually running out easy winners in the end by thirty two points.
